Playdate this Friday, July 26, 2013

The normal playdate meeting that was scheduled for Friday in Mundelein is being tagged onto a playdate happening close by a bit later in the day.  Sara is planning a regular playdate at Warren Township Park for 11 am on Friday morning.  The location of the park is about 10 minutes north of Mundelein Playdate meeting.

And to entice you further, we’re including some photos from last month’s park playdate meet up!

If someone would prefer to just swap carriers in or out with Heather in Mundelein on Friday, that is also an option. Send an email to or contact via Heather Facebook to swap carriers in Mundelein.

Otherwise, plan to visit Sara at Warren Township Park.  Warren Park is *technically* Gurnee, but still really close for those who were planning to come to Cygnus.  Enter the park on Almond Road.  It is at the Southwest corner of Almond and Washington streets, and only about 10 minutes north of Cygnus Lactation.  If a BWI member plans to check in our check out any carriers, please send an email to or send Heather a facebook message through our closed group.  Sara will be bringing ONE SMALL suitcase for swapping stuff out.  This won’t be a regular meeting, but will be an opportunity to swap carriers in or out. It’s also an opportunity to drop off carriers that are due.  We just need to know what you’re interested in by Thursday mid-day!

Warren township does have a sand area that also includes some water features/ spouts, and regular bathrooms with flushing toilets and sinks.  The park is lot of fun for the kids.  A little more parental effort is needed to keep track of kids who run/ take off in parks, since there are some openings to the outside, parking lots, etc.  Just wanted everyone to be aware; it’s a great park, but not a small one you can just let preschoolers run wild and still be able to see them everywhere from sitting on a bench.  It’s a favorite park for some of our families, because there are great structures for younger and also older children (and adults too)!  If your kids like sand/ water sand, consider bringing a change of clothes to leave in the car. 😉

A Generous Donation

This summer, a leader of our group contacted Action Baby Carriers to request carrier support for our lending libraries.  Our group has grown dramatically, and we’ve struggled to keep up with the requests.  As we’ve grown, our lending library has been split into 5 different sections based on meetings/leaders and the great distances between them.

We currently have one older version Action Baby Carrier (ABC) in our library, so it wasn’t available to as many parents at meetings.  They’re a fantastic, affordable carrier, and they’ve been severely under-represented in our group.

That under-representation is about to END.  We were SO excited to receive this yesterday:

That excitement grew as the box was opened.  We are completely BLOWN AWAY and GRATEFUL for the box that arrived this weekend!  It was more than we ever expected.

The folks at ABC were kind enough to send us not one, or two carriers.  They sent us 5 carriers!  That is one for EACH of our lending libraries.  What that means is that ALL the parents coming to a meeting, regardless of which location, will get to try these on as options if they’re looking for a new buckle carrier.

And the toddler and preschooler in the room were super excited too!  They couldn’t wait to help mom take them out of the box.

ABC’s are made right next door in Michigan.  Their website has a neat page called “See inside the carrier” that shows the interior construction.  You can see all the product features on their website here.

My favorite features are that it folds pretty compactly, the sleeping hood is easy to use, when worn on the front you have the option to wear backpack style or criss cross style.  Not all carriers offer criss-cross style straps (meaning the straps can be unlatched and switched for a different weight distribution), that the hip belt adjusts from 28″ to 53″, so it’s a bit more welcoming to parents of different sizes.

Photo Opportunities

We can’t wait to get some great pictures of these carriers and get them into the libraries.  Next time you visit a meeting, don’t be surprised if we ask you for a photo opportunity.  That photo might just end up on this website (wink, wink).  We’re looking forward to sharing the benefits of wearing children in carriers with you, and these are a great addition to that endeavor.

Thanks again-
