IBW Bash 2018 Platinum Sponsor Highlight: RxBar

RXBAR - Logo_White-Blk - Katelynn Ludwig

“We started RX in our kitchen.

No venture capitalists. No consultants. No office. Just best friends. Eager and broke. Upfront about it. We don’t have anything against conventional wisdom. We just don’t always follow it. Even today – we’ve got healthy ambitions, the usual insecurities, and all the other stuff that keeps us human. And this will never change.

We never cut corners. If a product doesn’t meet our high standards, we won’t ship it. Period. ‘Okay’ is never good enough. Take our Coconut Chocolate bar. We’ve gone through over 250 formulations. Always improving, little by little. We kind of need to get it right. Strange, but it turns out fear of failure tastes pretty good.

Starting a business with your best friend is great. It’s also really challenging. The reason RX works and we’re still friends is we know who we are – and who we’re not. Steadiness and risk-taking; together, we strike a good balance. We know when to hand something off, and when to take it ourselves. It’s the RX culture.”

Soul-Chicagoland-Seafoam-Full-Buckle - Sharmilla Abhilash

When you wrap your baby in Soul’s finest natural fabrics, you have in your hands, fair trade fabric sourced straight from Indian weavers. Our ethically sourced materials are lovingly handmade into our beautiful range of products by working mothers from the local community.

We believe that we have to be responsible to our society and our environment, and there is always more for us to do. Our conscious decision to work with a manufacturer who uses solar & wind energy to power their plant, is a step towards reducing our carbon footprint. Our packaging has no print on it, which is another conscious decision to avoid the use of harmful chemicals. We pioneered a change in the elaborate billing process of our logistics provider by optimising their invoice delivery system, which has considerably reduced their carbon footprint.

Soul makes different types of baby carriers which include ring slings, woven wraps and soft structured carriers. You can find all the products here, http://www.soulslings.com. Do join Soul Family our online community to know about Soul.

1) Soul Bliss Full Buckle, this carrier has unique prints of nature filled leafy green and white, giving it an intrinsic look.

Soul Full Buckles are lightweight, breathable and very comfortable baby carriers. Made completely out of 100% natural fibres, they are ideal for all climates. These highly adjustable carriers fit users ranging from petite to plus size! These are sturdy soft structured carriers (SSC) that have been designed to carry your baby in an ergonomic and natural position. The wooden button detailing is a conscious effort and the rustic look makes this handmade pouch look even more beautiful.

We are proud of our 96% women workforce, whom we empower by offering them flexible work hours, encouraging them to take up professional training, and ultimately become stronger team players within our organisation. We employ women from the local community who have blossomed into confident team leaders & designers through our training programme. We believe in a fair wage for all our team members, which is why we pay 15% more than the industry standard for our team members in our factory. The work environment that we have created for our team members in our factory is unlike any in the Indian garment industry. They work in a bright & airy environment, with ample natural light. We want them to truly be a part of our growing team, so we take them for team retreats once a year, which instills a sense of belonging in them.
We are proud of our work in supporting our women in what is most important for them- the education of their children. We grant interest free loans to all our women who need the financial support to put their children through school. We feel strongly about every child having access to quality education, which is why we ensure that there has been no child labour involved at any stage of the manufacturing process of our Soul products.

Soulslings-group-photo - Sharmilla Abhilash

Soul was founded in 2014 when I decided that every parent should have access to affordable and comfortable babywearing. I had unhappy experience with baby carriers when I had my first child. When I was expecting again, I decided to explore further. After prolonged research, I decided on a ring sling was the ideal choice considering my lifestyle and the Indian climate. I had to get it down from the US as it wasn’t locally available.
The first time I wore my son in my ring sling was when he was barely a few days old. I fell in love with my ring sling instantly. My newborn son was comfortably napping on me while I read books or went out for walks with my 5-year old daughter. Every time he was crying, all I needed to do was to wear him in my ring sling and he would settle down in minutes. I couldn’t imagine my life without my baby carriers. I never stepped out of the house without one. I remembered my life when my daughter was a newborn and realized that with a good ring sling those days could have been a lot less stressful for both of us.
That’s when I decided to start Soul in 2014. I knew I could make a difference in every parent’s life by introducing them to safe and affordable babywearing. As my son and I explored different styles of babywearing, Soul grew and increased its options for babywearers everywhere. When we started out I searched in vain for baby carriers which were locally made, well-constructed and elegant. So I
decided to do it myself. It’s a product that changed my life & I want every parent to experience the joy of wearing their baby close to their heart.”

IBW Bash 2018 Silver Sponsor Highlight: Third Coast Fiber Arts

logo - Miranda McCoy

Third Coast Fiber Arts makes products featuring handwoven fabric for you and your home. Using a range of high quality yarns and materials sourced primarily from small businesses in the U.S., decorative fabrics are hand woven on traditional floor looms and products are hand made in Chicago, IL and Crown Point, IN.

Third Coast Fiber Arts makes a wide range of products for you and your home, including bags, scarves, cowls, pillows, table runners, towels, and more.

The urban tote is a hand crafted bag featuring a decorative, hand dyed and handwoven panel in a pink and blue gradient. It’s big enough to carry everything you need for for work, a day out with the kids (and water resistant lining protects it from spills and makes for easy clean-up!), or to carry #allthewraps to your local meet up.
The kitchen towels with cheerful, hand dyed rainbow stripes are 100% cotton and machine washable, making them a beautiful – but functional! – addition to your kitchen.

The women behind Third Cost Fiber Arts are sisters who became interested in weaving because of their own collections of handwoven baby wraps. They took a weaving class together on a whim and fell in love with the craft. Before the class was over, they both bought floor looms and started weaving for family and friends.

IBW Bash 2018 Platinum Sponsor Highlight: BIRTHFIT

BF logo original - Molly Hankins

BIRTHFIT is a movement. It’s about expectant and postpartum moms taking charge of their bodies and their decisions, and supporting one another’s journeys. We train intentionally for pregnancy, and we recover postpartum with intention, the postpartum through fitness, nutrition and mindset. We want you to be ready in body, mind & spirit for the experience of birth and the lifelong journey that follows.

We offer postpartum fitness training through two options – the BIRTHFIT Postpartum Series and the Postpartum Breath & Flow Series. We’ll start with breath-work and evolve into full body, functional motor patterns. You will establish a solid core foundation, wake up your posterior chain, and enhance your posture through safe, effective movements that transfer to any activity in your daily life. These are great courses for all postpartum women looking to heal their core & pelvic floor and gain strength and stability to meet the daily demands of motherhood.

We also offer prenatal training both childbirth education and fitness training. Our BIRTHFIT Prenatal Series complements & completes your birth education journey! You & your birth partner will explore your birth preferences, choices & options; you will create your own postpartum healing plan and address the pillars of fitness, nutrition, connection and mindset for your motherhood transition. Our prenatal fitness program focuses on our belief that women should embrace proper strength and conditioning while training for pregnancy. We’re here to support you and help you physically and mentally prepare you for birth.

The BIRTHFIT Postpartum Series is an 8-class series (4 weeks). We are donating 3 Postpartum Series spots. In these classes, Moms will work on healing their core and pelvic floor after birth; returning to functional movements; connecting with other women; and sharing their stories.

We have 80+ Regional Directors all over the United States and Canada as well as a growing list of coaches and professionals. Our Chicagoland team is actually comprised of three separate companies – BIRTHFIT Fox Valley (Oswego), BIRTHFIT Chicago: Western Suburbs (Oak Park to Addison, and Warrenville to Naperville), and BIRTHFIT North Shore. We also have professionals and coaches throughout the Chicagoland area.

BIRTHFIT believes that connection, collaboration and communication are key. In the Chicagoland area, we are a team of chiropractors, coaches, functional medicine doctors, doulas, La Leche leaders and chiropractic-acupuncturists that work together to help mamas meet their goals through the motherhood transition. We believe that our strength lies in helping mamas by connecting them to the provider or coach that can help them the best.

BIRTHFIT was created because there was a need for women to be given evidence-based information during the motherhood transition (both prenatal and postpartum). It’s about expecting and postpartum moms taking charge of their bodies and their decisions. We are here as a support team, helping provide mamas information so they can make informed decisions on fitness, nutrition and mindset.”

A note from B & B Creations:  “I offer quality made vinyl t-shirts, decals and more. I started as a way to make cute shirts for my kids. I now love to offer mommy and me sets, Mom shirts, wall decor and more!

I make vinyl t-shirts, decals and framed canvas art. I am donating key chains in a variety of colors with baby wearing, cloth diaper and breastfeeding images on them, for each swag bag.

We just recently bought some land to turn into a farm! I’m just one mom trying to bring cute affordable shirts to other mom’s.

I started making items with my neighbor, when we wanted cute shirts for our kids. We signed up to do an event together, but she moved shortly after. Now its just me.”

Thank you B & B Creations!

We are also a dispensary of pasteurized donor milk for the Mothers Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes, so we can provide donor milk by Rx. We have a creamatocrit machine on-site to measure calorie and fat content of milk for our special-needs babies. Our goal is to provide full service support!

Anatomy drawing with our name - Kyla Cygnus

We’re hoping our donation to supply the changing area helps make life easier for those attending!

Our company got its start by others saying it couldn’t be done! Totally impossible! I was also a single mom with two kids at the time — and was told so many times to just stop and “get a real job”. I was once introduced at a presentation I was giving as “The Woman Who is Doing What Can’t Be Done”, (by a man who told me more than once it couldn’t be done!) and I wear that as a badge of honor! So — NEVER believe it when anyone tells you it’s impossible. Just quietly show them just how possible it is!

Our membership model allows us to work with our families from birth until weaning, rather than just one visit. This way we get to know our families really well, and we get to help them overcome all kinds of hurdles along the way. Our families tend to have much longer breastfeeding journeys because of this ongoing support.

Our company was founded on the idea that breastfeeding is just as important to both mom and baby’s health as any other medical care. We wanted to create a practice that respects the importance of breastfeeding and integrates the latest knowledge and techniques to improve outcomes for the entire breastfeeding family.

Supporting our community has also been central to our business goals, so we appreciate the opportunity to help with this event, and we thank YOU for all the work you do to help families!”
